Dear Listeners,

Sometimes there is good news! Back in May the US Supreme Court threw out the Clinton-era law banning “Crush Videos”, which are videos depicting sadistic torture of animals, usually by, and with a sexual depiction of women. The NRA caused the law to be thrown out because it would interfere with “hunting videos”. A group called Stopcrush was formed to bring the law back. I interviewed them back in May at the very start of their campaign. The process required that the law had to go through the whole Washington DC procedure again. Last week the bill 5566 passed the House of Representatives.

Dear Listeners,
This weeks show has the delightful live appearance in the KOWS studio by the Sweet PennyRoyals, a lovely musical trio, and also a phone interview with Steve Roby and Brad Schreiber on their new book “Becoming Jimi Hendrix”, this Friday 7-9pm on KOWS 107.3fm or streaming live at www.kows.fm from ethereal downtown Occidental.
The SPR (sweetpennyroyals.blogspot.com), are Roxanne Oliva on accordion & crumhorn, Janette Duncan on fiddle, & harp, and Carleen Weirauch on percussion & eggbeater. Their style tends to circus-noir with a sprinkle of Edith Piaf gone gypsy. Their music is from the Balkans, Russia, Israel, France, The British Isles and more.
I will also be chatting with Steve Roby, (http://www.steveroby.com/), the official Jimi Hendrix family historian, and his co-writer Brad Schreiber on their new book, “Becoming Jimi Hendrix”, which chronicles Jimi’s early life, up to his breakthrough in England, on the 40th anniversary of his passing.

Really enjoyed my show, first talking with Frank Locantore about paper. The surprise of the evening was how delightful Marilyn O’Malley the Celtic singer/songwriter/guitarist from Washington was. I thank Adrian who brought Marilyn to my attention. She can sing a deeply sad sea shanty, then made us laugh with a song about pancakes! She sang almost non-stop the whole hour.

May go see Phil Lawrence, mandolin and David la Flamme (It’s a beautiful day) at the French Garden tonight. Phil will be playing live during my show this Friday with Lisa Sangita Moscow on Sitar.

Sunday at the newly revitalized River Theater in Guerneville, Alvin Bishop is playing. David G has got a spare ticket so I’ll be going!

This Friday 10th Sept. 2010 7-9pm live on www.kows.fm.
I’ll be talking with Frank Locantore in Boulder Co. He is the Director of Better Paper Project with Green America. he will give us some insight into the paper industry and the truth behind recycled paper. Of the 17,000 magazines in the country, no more than 2% use recycled paper.
At 8pm I welcome Marilyn O’Malley into the KOWS studio. Marilyn is a Celtic singer/songwriter from Oregon. She will be talking about her career and singing some of her songs.

Last week’s show: Hope you enjoyed the poetry from Gwynn O’Gara, Mike Tuggle and phone call-ins. I hope to make poetry a regular feature with visiting poets.

Aug 27th Show: be sure to check out the short video in the interview page, of the one-and-only Hubbub Club flooding into the KOWS studio during my show playing “When the Saints”, during my 5th Anniversary of Katrina show.

Some great live music coming up the next 4 weeks. Check out the upcoming on the website.
